Fuel Systems for Data Centers

End-to-end diesel fuel management engineered for uptime, compliance, and generator reliability.

01 / STORE

Fuel Storage & Tank Monitoring

Start with the storage system. AFS coordinates fuel tanks, catwalks, sumps, ancillary products, and monitoring to build the foundation of a reliable fuel supply.

One vendor. One service provider. A turnkey solution. Engineering, fabrication, and service work together from initial storage design through long-term operation, with nationwide support for mission-critical facilities.

  • Bulk storage and tank integration
  • Catwalks, sumps, access provisions, and ancillary equipment
  • Tank-level gauging, leak detection, and operator visibility

Systems are designed around reliability, compliance, and operational clarity for high-availability environments.

02 / TRANSFER

Offloading, Distribution & Main-Tank Filtration

AFS designs and fabricates offloading and distribution systems specifically for data-center fuel-delivery operations. The AFS OFD-1000 connects delivery trucks to main storage, distributes fuel to generator tanks, and provides main-tank filtration through fully automated controls.

  • High-flow transfer to reduce delivery time and site congestion
  • 316SS piping and industrial-grade components
  • Differential pressure monitoring with alarms and safety interlocks
  • NEMA 4X enclosures with integrated motor starters
  • Camlock™ or facility-specified quick-connect fittings

Why it matters: A coordinated delivery path helps limit contamination during transfer, maintain incoming diesel quality against ASTM D975 requirements, and reduce the risk of generator problems caused by poor-quality fuel.

03 / CONTROL

GFIP Generator Tank Controls

AFS provides engineered distribution skid solutions for multi-generator facilities, automating fuel movement from bulk storage to generator belly tanks or day tanks. AFS-manufactured GFIP panels centralize generator-tank monitoring and control.

  • Automated routing based on tank levels and generator demand
  • Low-low, low, high, and high-high level alarms
  • Overfill prevention, alarm logic, and safety interlocks
  • BMS / SCADA integration for centralized visibility
  • UL-rated electrical and control-enclosure options
  • Redundant pump configurations for specified N+1 requirements

Why it matters: Coordinated control supports reliable supply to each generator, reduces overfill and environmental risks, and gives operations teams clear system visibility. Designs account for applicable NFPA 30 and local authority-having-jurisdiction requirements.

04 / MAINTAIN

Permanent Fuel Quality Management

Permanent, automated AFS FFS systems maintain stored diesel through continuous or scheduled filtration, real-time monitoring, and treatment metering. Closed-loop fuel management works alongside the generator fuel-supply system to reduce contamination-related failures and support immediate startup readiness.

  • Particulate and water removal to the project’s ISO 4406 cleanliness targets
  • Particle counters and water sensors for real-time fuel-condition monitoring
  • PLC-based automation with AFS logic programming
  • NEMA 4X / UL 508 control-enclosure configurations
  • Explosion-proof options for specified hazardous locations
  • Telemetry and remote monitoring for operations teams

Why it matters: Proactive fuel quality management helps reduce emergency maintenance and unplanned outages while supporting ASTM D975 fuel-quality requirements and the facility’s applicable NFPA 110 standby-power maintenance program.

Supplied engineering rendering. Final configuration is project-specific.

05 / PREPARE

Fuel Line Flushing, Purging & Priming

Prepare the full fuel path before startup. AFS provides fuel-line flushing, purging, and priming as part of a coordinated commissioning plan.

  • Fuel lines flushed to the project’s required procedure
  • Lines purged and primed for commissioning and startup
  • Work coordinated with installation and commissioning teams

This preparation connects the installed fuel-storage, offloading, distribution, and generator systems before they enter service.

06 / COMMISSION

Commissioning & Startup Services

AFS provides complete commissioning and startup services for the integrated fuel system. Equipment checks, control-sequence verification, alarm testing, and project documentation bring the installed system into coordinated operation.

  • Equipment and control-sequence checks
  • Tank-level alarm, interlock, and interface verification
  • BMS / SCADA coordination where specified
  • Startup support and project documentation

The commissioning scope is established around the installed equipment, facility requirements, and agreed startup plan.

07 / PRESERVE

Scheduled Service, Testing & Documentation

AFS provides ongoing maintenance, treatment, cleaning, and verification to support long-term fuel reliability for mission-critical data centers. Follow-up service carries the commissioning baseline into day-to-day operation.

  • Routine cleaning of bulk-storage and generator tanks
  • Fuel treatment for stability, microbial control, and water dispersion where indicated
  • Scheduled filtration cycles based on contamination trends
  • Periodic third-party laboratory testing against ASTM D975 requirements and ISO 4406 cleanliness targets
  • Detailed reporting for facility records, audits, and generator-manufacturer requirements
  • Emergency response services for fuel-contamination events and related generator-fuel problems
Fuel testing and facility requirements

Laboratory analysis verifies fuel properties and cleanliness. Facility service planning and records can also support applicable NFPA 30 storage-and-handling requirements, NFPA 110 emergency/standby-power maintenance requirements, and local AHJ requirements. The applicable scope is coordinated with the facility and project team.

Why it matters: A documented service program helps protect generator assets, reduce costly downtime, and support audit, insurance, and equipment-maintenance records.
